AN influx of pool champs will join Ballarat and district's best to battle out the Ballarat Eight Ball Open this weekend.

The event, which has been held outside Ballarat in past years, offers more than $12,000 in prizemoney across male, female and junior divisions.

The Duck Entertainment Centre, formerly Club Q, will host the competition. Owner Darren Sadler expects it to bring up to 500 players and their entourages to the city.

"They are expecting 250 entries because it is back in Ballarat this year, which is probably down a little bit from what is has been in the past," Sadler said.

"We get a lot of South Australians and Queenslanders and the like that use it as a bit of a holiday.
